Curriculum committee recommends professional development, translation services and field trips
Summary

Shweta reported the Curriculum & Instruction Committee met on July 21 and summarized recommendations for 2026–27 professional development, evaluation instruments and field trips.
The committee recommended using the Charlotte Danielson framework (multiple editions) and the New Jersey principal evaluation for administrators as evaluation instruments and noted use of alternative rubrics for highly effective teachers. The committee recommended approval of several professional development opportunities and memberships: administrative retreat participation scheduled for Aug. 11–14; Teachers as Scholars partnerships; district membership in a school network at The College of New Jersey for $3,750; and Teachers as Scholars membership at Princeton University for $1,250. Several PD items are partially paid through contractual funds or Title III grant funds as noted.
Contracts and services recommended included Propio Language Services for professional translation in all languages for the 2026–27 school year (not to exceed $10,000) and sessions by Language and Literacy Associates for Multilingual and Multicultural Education (costs paid through Title III funds). The committee also recommended approval of community education programs and two overnight field trips funded by students: high school cheerleaders to the national championships in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 4–9, 2027, and middle school outdoor education to Pennsylvania, June 7–11 (costs paid by participating students).
The committee will bring the recommended contracts and memberships forward for board approval at the next voting session.
