The Lafourche Parish Council adopted a resolution requesting Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to consider relocating traffic signals from the Saint Joseph Church/Galliano Bridge area to the new airport corridor near the new airport bridge.
Councilman Lorraine, recounting a decades‑long effort to obtain traffic control and citing past fatal crashes, argued a traffic signal is safer than a 4‑way stop for the LA‑1 intersection near Bridal. "It's really ridiculous that they're gonna put a 4 way stop on LA 1... You will have a bunch of fender benders," Lorraine said, urging the council to send the resolution to the governor. Vice Chair Perk agreed, noting local driving culture gives LA‑1 the right of way and expressing concern that motorists will assume right of way at a four‑way stop.
Parish President Mitch Oseron acknowledged DOTD follows its warrants and that the parish will continue to press the department in upcoming meetings. The resolution passed unanimously; council members said they will raise the issue with DOTD and attempt to secure traffic‑control changes when next meeting with state officials occurs.
