Elk County approves purchase of two remote water monitors for rural fire trucks

The Elk County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 23 to authorize purchase of two remote water monitors for rural fire department 'deuce' fire trucks at roughly $10,000 each.
Rural Fire representative Todd Winscher told commissioners he 'would like to purchase three remote water monitors for the front of the deuce fire trucks for $10,000 each' and said the devices would replace a firefighter standing on the front of the truck, helping address the shortage of volunteer firefighters. Commissioner Jake Liebau moved and Commissioner Perry Russell seconded a motion to purchase two remote water monitors for the deuces; the motion carried 3-0. Winscher said the plan is to purchase two more remote water monitors next year.
The recorded minutes note one 1-ton truck from Longton is in the shop for shifting problems; when it is returned another 1-ton will go to shop service. The remote monitors will be deployed to reduce risks to firefighters and to allow more automated water delivery during rural responses.
