Fair Board members Robert Knitter and Karen Yarrow told the Board water is standing in several locations on the new Event Center asphalt parking lot, causing guests at weddings and other events to walk through pooled water. Eric Schwein, vice president of Shilling Construction, said the contractor paved to help the county but does not specialize in parking-lot laser grading and recommended hiring an engineering firm to "shoot the levels" and identify necessary grading work.
Commissioner Mayo said the county works well with Schwab Eaton and the Board agreed to contact that firm to schedule a site survey and collaborate on a solution. Schwein said paving crews had advised that grade and leveling needed to be done before asphalt was laid; the Board will pursue engineering verification and corrective work.
