A representative of the Turnkey Foundation told council the nonprofit donated 50 box vans to the city and is organizing a back-to-school event on August 8 at Sonora Park with 800 backpacks and community partners.
"We are hosting August 8, the back to school bash... 800 backpacks with school supplies," the presenter said, later identified in the meeting by the mayor as Mark. He said the event will include food trucks, bounce houses and free haircuts and that his charity had also donated turkeys and groceries in prior years. The presenter emphasized he was not asking the city for money.
Council thanked the presenter for the donation and encouraged public participation; the city manager and staff were asked to help coordinate logistics ahead of the event.
