Zoning board unanimously approves rear addition for Edison homeowner

The Edison Township Zoning Board of Adjustment unanimously approved a bulk-variance application allowing a rear bedroom addition and a new deck at 47 Stoney Road.
Homeowner Tuan Nguyen told the board he needs a first-floor bedroom and safe outdoor space so his elderly parents can live nearby. "My family and I have been part of the Addison community for many years," Nguyen said, and described comparable nearby properties with similar additions. Engineer and planner John P. DuPont testified the project meets engineering standards, noting the increase in impervious area would be "de minimis."
Neighbors within and outside the 200-foot notice radius were given the opportunity to speak; the board heard questions about comparables, parking and drainage but found the applicant met positive and negative statutory criteria. Vice chair O'Gorman moved to approve and the motion passed on a roll-call vote; the board congratulated Nguyen on his preparation. The board recorded unanimous approval and the application will be finalized in a subsequent memorializing resolution.
