Cherokee County OKs $58,213 ARPA payment for Rainbow Bridge painting; ribbon-cutting set for May 2

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a $58,213.00 wire transfer from ARPA funds to JT's Pro Pressure Washing LLC to pay for the recently completed painting of Rainbow Bridge. The payment request was presented by Joni Hicks of the Road and Bridge Department and approved by a motion from Chair Myra Carlisle Frazier, seconded by Commissioner Cory Moates, and passed unanimously.
County Road and Bridge Supervisor Cody Zook told the Board that painting at Rainbow Bridge has been completed, that the original bridge sign is dilapidated and should be replaced, and that new signage will be installed. Frazier announced a ribbon-cutting for the bridge on May 2 at 1:00 p.m. Zook also reported that worker training on new mowers will occur this week and updated commissioners on cleanup efforts following a tornado on April 20, 2025. Commissioner Cory Moates asked that a guardrail be placed at the corner of SE 103rd and SE Star Road due to repeated fence breaches; the Board discussed the request during the Road & Bridge update.
The payment for the painting was funded from ARPA accounts as requested; the wire transfer amount and source were specified in the request. No dissenting votes were recorded on the Rainbow Bridge payment or the related administrative items.
