Commissioners authorize purchase of smoke/fire hoods and trained K-9; permit K-9 adoption upon retirement

Per recommendation of Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners on March 9 approved purchase of six iEvac Smoke/Fire Hood E900 masks for the sheriff's office at an estimated cost of $1,517.75. The board also approved purchase of a trained K-9 from Von Der Haus Gill German Shepherds & Police K-9 Academy with an estimated cost of $18,000.
Separately, commissioners authorized the retirement of county-owned K-9 Odra as surplus county property and approved adoption by Deputy Jason Havens, the K-9's current handler. All motions passed by unanimous roll call as recorded in the minutes.
