Commissioners back Tecumseh Land Trust easement applications; Rittenhouse abstains

Commission President Sasha L. Rittenhouse recused herself from the agricultural easement discussion because the agenda included resolutions that involved her family. The Board nevertheless approved two companion resolutions (2026-0201 and 2026-0202) expressing county support for applications to the Ohio Local Agricultural Easement Purchase Program; Rittenhouse is recorded as abstaining from the roll-call votes.
"This program is to protect land with agricultural easements... ensure that these properties are forever protected," said Caitlin Brown, Associate Director of Tecumseh Land Trust, describing six Clark County properties applying this year and noting many applicants are also seeking federal funding to strengthen their cases. Brown added that the land trust will act as an intervener in a separate local solar project proceeding. Commissioner Charles A. Patterson and Commissioner Richard L. Lohnes voted in favor of both resolutions.
The resolutions state the nominations are compatible with the county’s goals to preserve and promote agriculture and acknowledge that participation in LAEPP does not conflict with county land-use plans. The board document lists an exhibit of nominated properties; specific parcel identifiers and compensation amounts were not included in the public discussion and are recorded in the resolutions' exhibit.
