Markesan mayor's appointments confirmed; David Abendroth elected council president

Mayor Rich Slate reconvened the organizational meeting on April 21 and presented a slate of executive and official appointments for one-year terms effective April 21, 2026. Council confirmation motions passed unanimously, 5-0.
The appointments confirmed included committee rosters for Finance, Personnel & Safety; Streets, Buildings & Utilities; and Public Property & Health, with Clint Lager named as Finance committee chair and Dennis Triemstra as Streets committee chair. The council also confirmed Cody McLean as Weed Commissioner and David Zanto as Board of Zoning Appeals chair. Justin Sondalle was confirmed as City Attorney, Michael Ross as Director of Emergency Government and Todd Zamzow as City Forester. Motion records show confirmations were made by Prill/Triemstra and other pairings and carried 5-0.
Separately, Ald. Dennis Triemstra moved to nominate David Abendroth as Council President; the motion carried 5-0. Clerk/Treasurer Tamra M. Harrington certified that newly elected officials had taken their oaths at the meeting.
