Superintendent outlines grief counseling and ongoing supports after district tragedy

Superintendent Sara Gramm told the Sebastopol Union School District Board of Trustees on March 13, 2025 that the district has received "nothing but support from our student families" following a recent tragedy and that it is coordinating counseling services for students and staff.
Gramm said the district is working with the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) crisis team and that Sutter Hospital offers an art-based grief counseling group the district can use. She told trustees the program can meet over the summer and next fall if needed and that staff have received care packages and supportive messages from families. Board members discussed continuing outreach and how services will be scheduled during and after the school year.
Board President Deborah Drehmel and other trustees acknowledged community concern and recommended the district continue regular communication with families; no formal board action was required. The Board will revisit related support services as needed at future meetings.
