The American Fork City Council voted to award a $1,285,000 contract to Newman Construction for improvements at 200 South and 300 West and approved a $128,500 construction and engineering contingency held by the city.
Public Works Director Sam Kelly told the Council the project was bid with both full-closure and partial-closure traffic control options; pricing was the same for both approaches, so staff recommended the partial-closure option to maintain access to critical legs of the corridor. Mayor Bradley J. Frost said the project "will have a significant impact on the area" and urged flexibility on extended work hours to shorten the schedule.
Council Member Ryan Hunter moved to accept Newman Construction's bid with the partial-closure traffic control plan; Council Member Ernie John seconded the motion and the Council approved it unanimously. Staff said anticipated substantial completion is around Sept. 30 with final completion near Oct. 15, but that schedule could move earlier if materials and conditions allow.
The Council flagged public awareness and coordination as essential next steps and held a $128,500 contingency to address construction or engineering changes.
