Roads report: crews clear storm damage; commissioners discuss disaster funding options

Road and Bridge Special Projects Foreman Matt Fritz and Office Manager Jennifer Bontrager told the board crews have been retrieving rock from flood-damaged areas, clearing logjams and washouts, replacing a tube at 178 and U2 Roads, and completing backfill on the W4 bridge. They said chip-seal patching and patching north of 178 on Q4 remain underway and that they are working with Husker Steel on a bridge project on Q and 113 roads.
Commissioner Keith Kelly passed along information from the Conservation District about possible disaster funding the county might be eligible for to address roads that have not yet been fixed, explaining "engineers would have to review the application to see if they qualify and then they could submit." Office staff said they maintain documentation and photos of road damages for applications. The board requested that Pat Korte join to discuss options for declaring a disaster proclamation and relief funding.
