Jackson County commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to end the county's EagleView aerial imagery contract when it expires in 2027 and to re-evaluate options during the upcoming budget process.
Commissioner Keith Kelly moved to terminate the EagleView contract at the end of its term; Commissioner Linda Gerhardt seconded and the motion carried 3-0. Jamey Doty from the Appraiser’s Office told the Board that flyovers are common practice for appraisers but explained that some properties have locked gates and denied access, which can lead to taxable property not being observed. Doty said offices are exploring co-op flyover options that could reduce pricing.
Chairman Mark Pruett said the Appraiser may present a justification for future flyover services at the budget meeting. Commissioner Kelly suggested some offices 'use Google maps' as a lower-cost reference. The Board’s motion ends the EagleView relationship at contract expiration; any future imagery approach will be considered during budget deliberations.
