Mayor Michael Christensen and the City Council approved awarding the Soccer Field project to NW Turf Solutions with a sod option and authorized the Mayor to sign the Notice of Award. The decision followed a presentation by Curt Carpenter of NW Turf Solutions, who said NWTS had laser graded the park expansion area and offered to extend sod placement approximately 20 feet west of the field and modify sprinklers at no additional cost to the city.
Councilmember Kannely moved to rescind the July 1, 2025 motion that had awarded the project with the hydroseed option; that motion (m/s Kannely/Fanning) carried. A subsequent motion (m/s Kannely/Rodriguez) to award the project to NW Turf Solutions with the sod option also carried. Public Works Director Mauricio Romero had raised concerns about added maintenance workload if the field were hydroseeded, a factor the council cited when moving to the sod option. The council recorded its formal action during the presentations section of the meeting.
