Rhonda Carroll, Landfill Director, reported that the violation noted in the last inspection had been corrected. She said she had documented corrections with photos and a written statement and submitted them to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). Carroll told the Board she had not received an acknowledgment, so she called KDHE; "Within 2 hours there were KDHE staff at the Landfill for another inspection," she reported.
Following Carroll's update, Commissioner Carlson instructed Carroll to have the camper located at the construction-and-demolition (C&D) pit crushed because he had observed people climbing on it. Carroll indicated she had taken corrective actions and provided supporting documentation to KDHE, but the minutes do not show KDHE's findings from the follow-up inspection or any further enforcement actions.
The Board recorded the correction efforts and a staff instruction to remove the safety hazard; the minutes do not indicate KDHE's response was received in writing during the meeting.
