Midvalley Highway recommended for High Priority Corridor designation to aid land acquisition

Geoff Dupaix of UDOT reported that the State Transportation Commission recommended adding Midvalley Highway to the High Priority Corridor List. He said the designation would prompt local governments to notify UDOT when development is proposed in or near the Midvalley Highway environmentally-cleared corridor, increasing UDOT’s opportunities to purchase land on a willing-seller basis before development raises acquisition costs.
Dupaix explained the purchases would be "willing seller-willing buyer only" and that early notification from local governments could produce large savings in future construction costs. The RPO received the report; no formal action was recorded to change local policy or trigger immediate acquisitions.
The item was presented as an update from UDOT; member jurisdictions were put on notice to coordinate with UDOT on development notifications if and when projects proceed within the corridor.
