Cowley County approves 35 mph speed limit and no-commercial-through-traffic for Silverdale Township

The Cowley County Commission on March 3 approved Resolution No. 2026-05 to prohibit commercial through traffic and to install signage reducing speed to 35 miles per hour on 155th Road and 256th Road in Silverdale Township.
Lucas Goff, County Administrator, presented an engineering evaluation recommending the reduced speed. Goff confirmed a speed study had been completed and told commissioners there is "a recommended reduced speed around the curve." Tom Leis, manager of Hy-Grade Aggregates, asked whether the statutory speed-study requirement had been satisfied; Goff said it had.
Vice Chairman Alan Groom moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner Wayne Wilt seconded; the motion passed 3-0. The commission also directed the County Administrator to provide a quote and an agreement with Silverdale Township for Public Works to install signage consistent with the engineering study.
Implementation will be coordinated through the county public-works office and an agreement with Silverdale Township; the resolution also restricts commercial through traffic on the named roads.
