Cherokee County commissioners approve routine business, hire counsel for fence dispute

At its April 14, 2025 meeting the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved minutes, payables and payroll, authorized several hires and contracts, granted a letter of support to SEK-CAP, approved a cereal malt beverage license, and retained counsel in a fence-viewing dispute between private landowners.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners convened on April 14, 2025, in the Commission Room at the Cherokee County Courthouse. Chair Myra Carlisle Frazier opened the meeting at 9:00 a.m.; Commissioners Jack Garner and Cory Moates were present. The board unanimously approved minutes from April 7, 2025, and the presented payables and payroll.
Commissioners voted unanimously on a series of routine administrative items and personnel actions. Motions passed to hire Treg Easley as a Utility Operator effective April 14, 2025, at $16.00 per hour and to authorize the Planning Board chair to execute a contract with zoning consultant Mel Hess at $20.00 per hour. The board also approved a request for Chair Frazier to sign a letter of support for SEK-CAP’s Federal Black Grant request and approved a cereal malt beverage license for Downstream Development Authority.
In other business the board unanimously voted to retain Attorney Matt Bonner at $150.00 per hour to represent the county in a fence-viewing matter involving landowners Levi and Robynn Snow and the JSM Trust. The meeting recessed at 10:20 a.m. and reconvened at 10:25 a.m. It adjourned after the board’s fence-viewing determination (see separate article).
