Commissioners to consider bids for two surplus county parcels

Ramona Gilliam told the board Jan. 20 that the county received bids on two surplus properties previously declared surplus. For 100 Eichelberger Street in LaGrange there were two bids with the highest at $126,300.50; for 170 and 172 Reid Road in West Point staff reported a single bid of $226,000. Gilliam said staff advertised the sales and opened bids on Jan. 6 and requested permission to process sales at the highest bids received.
Commissioners and staff discussed the closing timeline. A staff member noted the bid notice required closing within 30 days of the bid opening, which is a short window, and recommended authorizing a longer closing period; the manager and counsel suggested an extension not to exceed 60 days from award would be acceptable. The chair and staff agreed to place two separate motions on the evening business agenda so each property sale can be processed independently.
The work session did not finalize the sales; commissioners will vote on the awards and any closing-period extension at tonight's meeting.
