Iron County authorizes Sourcewell use to streamline highway equipment purchases

The Iron County Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 24 to authorize the Highway Commissioner to utilize Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing program, to manage highway equipment procurement.
Resolution 2026-4059—approved by voice vote after a motion from Erickson and a second from Thomas—says Sourcewell provides a "no-cost software platform and competitively solicited contracts" to facilitate efficient bidding. The board recorded unanimous support for the measure.
County officials said participation is intended to streamline the procurement process for highway equipment purchases. The resolution directs the Highway Commissioner to use Sourcewell contracts where appropriate to reduce administrative burden and leverage competitively solicited prices.
The approval follows discussion at the Highway committee, which also flagged consideration of a portable traffic light purchase estimated at about $63,000 to enhance safety and reduce labor needs.
