Road crews working to meet FEMA deadlines; patching and bridge work reported

Perry Holmes, Winn Parish Road Superintendent, told the Jury crews were operating three graders, a dozer and two dump trucks to complete dirt work required by FEMA before rock placement. He said one grader was temporarily out of service but expected back soon and that ditching on Moore Road is finished.
"FEMA work is my main topic for today as he is trying to complete all dirt work and then rock work to meet the deadlines FEMA has imposed," Holmes said, underscoring the scheduling constraints tied to reimbursements.
Assistant Road Superintendent Paul Hodnett reported grass cutting is complete once across the parish and about half complete on a second pass, and said the pothole patcher is active in the Lake area, Calvin, Brewton’s Mill, Gansville and Jordan Hill. Hodnett added that bridge work has been completed and crews side-boomed Tom Hudson Road.
No formal contracting or bid decisions were made at the meeting beyond a later motion to advertise for 2026 road materials; the board heard staff updates to monitor FEMA timelines and equipment status.
