Winn Parish road crews report progress as FEMA deadlines approach

Road Superintendent Perry Holmes updated the Winn Parish Police Jury on Monday, saying ditching and grading "is going well as can be" and that crews are pushing to finish several FEMA‑funded projects before upcoming deadlines. Holmes told jurors the hauling contractor has added trucks to help meet the schedule and that the Henry Sanders project is nearly complete while crews have started work at Carter Crossing.
Holmes also reported there is still a grader operator out sick and that the pothole patcher should return to full time service once a driver is hired, targeted for the first week of September. He said bridge inspections are imminent and that crews will spray herbicides to control brush growth. He cited three FEMA extension dates for large projects: Sept. 30, 2025; Oct. 31, 2025; and Feb. 3, 2026, and said the extensions make on‑time completion feasible with the additional hauling capacity. The Jury took no separate vote on the update; it was presented during the announcements and road report portion of the meeting.
