Sequim staff: current water rights and storage likely meet planning-period needs

Carla, planning staff, summarized the city's water inventory and the capital facility planning assumptions. "The water system consists of 2 well fields and infiltration gallery," she said, adding the city has "three storage reservoirs totaling 2,900,000 gallon[s] of active storage" and roughly 77 miles of piping. Staff described a level-of-service standard tied to instantaneous peak demand and required fire flows.
Carla said consultants used a conservatively high growth-rate assumption and noted the plan shows the city holds about 1,850 acre-feet per year of water rights; "no additional water rights were identified as being needed for the planning period," she said. City Engineer Nick Dosti confirmed the city has an open application for an additional water right submitted in 2017. Commissioners asked staff to provide a short, plain-language summary for the public explaining what the storage provides and which areas within city limits are not currently served by city water.
