Wilkes County declines first right of refusal for former Lincoln Heights School property

The Board reviewed an offer from the Wilkes County Board of Education that would have given the County the first opportunity to acquire a portion of the former Lincoln Heights School property.
County Attorney Tony Triplett explained the statutory process under GS-115C-518, calling it "essentially a right of first refusal," and described the negotiation role the County would play if it chose to pursue the property. Commissioner Bill Sexton said he did not believe the County needed the property. Commissioner Shirley Randleman moved to reject the offer; Commissioner Bill Sexton seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
By declining the offer, the School Board may proceed with the property under its ordinary procedures for sale or disposal.
