Wayne County Board OKs temporary contract with former social services attorney

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 28 to authorize a temporary contract with former Social Services attorney Jacqueline McCormick to provide legal services for the county’s Department of Law at a rate of $158 per hour, not to exceed $15,168.
Mrs. Pisciotti presented RESOLUTION 84-26, saying the contract is needed because "there is currently only one attorney in the Wayne County Department of Law assigned to Social Services legal work" and that the workload is excessive; she read the resolution text stating the board is authorized to contract with McCormick on a temporary, as-needed basis. Mr. Fantuzzo moved adoption of the resolution and Mr. Rose seconded; the measure was adopted upon roll call.
The resolution cites a vacant second attorney position and notes that the attorney currently assigned did not have an opportunity to train with outgoing attorneys prior to being hired, creating a workload strain. The contract approval allows the county to bring McCormick on a limited basis to provide legal support while the department remains short-staffed.
The board took the vote on the resolution during a special meeting convened in the Supervisors Chambers in Lyons. The next regular meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at 9 a.m., the clerk later recorded.
