Wilkes County approves budget amendments including sheriff grant funds and chiller replacement

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved three budget amendments at its April 21 meeting.
Commissioner Shirley Randleman moved to adopt Budget Amendment No. 30, No. 31 and No. 32; Commissioner Bill Sexton seconded and the motion passed without objection. Budget Amendment No. 30 allocates $84,270 to the Sheriff’s Department linked to Session Law 2021-180 (House Bill 105) to be disbursed in keeping with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety guidance. Budget Amendment No. 31 provides $3,590 to Wilkes Health for the Child Health program; the meeting packet noted this is state-provided funding and "No County Dollars involved." Budget Amendment No. 32 moves $200,000 from the General Fund Balance to cover an unexpected replacement chiller for the 44,000-square-foot Sheriff’s Department facility.
The County Attorney and staff explained the funding terms in the meeting packet, including the effective term language attached to the HB-105 funds. No dissent was recorded and the Board approved all three amendments in a single motion.
