Mount Vernon sets Sept. 1 special election on EMS district levy

The Mount Vernon City Council on July 20 approved Resolution #7-20-2026A to establish the Mount Vernon Emergency Medical Services District plat and set a special election for September 1, 2026 on the question of a special levy.
Jacob Lindauer, Lisbon‑Mount Vernon Ambulance Director, described the measure as a single-issue election coordinated among Johnson County, Linn County, the City of Lisbon and Mount Vernon that would both authorize a levy for the EMS district and nominate trustees as defined in Iowa Code chapter 357G. The hearing was opened and closed by Mayor Thomas M. Wieseler; council later approved the resolution on a unanimous roll-call vote following the public hearing.
Council members moved and seconded the measure (mover: Tuerler; second: Rose); roll call was recorded as all yes and the resolution passed. The election date is set for Sept. 1, 2026.
