Niles council approves consent agenda including AED purchase, development option and appointment

The Niles City Council approved a multi-item consent agenda at its July 13, 2026 meeting, authorizing purchases, easements and an appointment. The council voted unanimously on the package, with Councilmember Charlie McAfee moving to approve the agenda earlier in the meeting and Councilmember Jessica Nelson later moving to adopt the consent items.
Key items approved include the Fire Department’s purchase of a Lifepak 15 Biphasic Pacing AED from Coast Biomedical of Vista, California, at a cost of $14,999, with the purchase paid for by a local foundation. The council also approved a Limited Option supporting ARK Capital LLC’s proposed development of property at S. 3rd and Broadway Streets and a Non-Exclusive Utility Easement with Riverfront Park Resort, LLC to allow underground boring for a sewer forced main.
The History Center was authorized to accept a $6,000 quote from Christman Custom Painting of Mishawaka, Indiana to paint the Chapin Mansion porch and railings; the council record notes that a private foundation will cover that cost. The council also adopted a resolution appointing Zach Holt as Street Administrator for the City of Niles.
Councilmember Timothy Rogers moved and Councilmember Sheila Koebel seconded authorization of the Lifepak purchase; other consent items were moved and seconded by councilmembers as recorded. Roll-call voting on the consent package recorded yeas from the present councilmembers and the motions carried.
