County Engineer Kent told the Jackson County Commission July 27 that several pieces of public‑works equipment in the county’s government lease program are reaching payoff and that staff recommends paying off and surplusing older units while replacing them under a five‑year lease structure. Kent said the county’s long‑used approach helps keep core equipment in serviceable condition and manage the fleet backlog.
Kent walked commissioners through three replacement options (A–C) showing interest ranges roughly between 4.99% and 6.25%, and explained option B was the recommended choice; combining the recommended replacements with an existing grader lease would slightly exceed the $150,000 budgeted amount and therefore would require a budget adjustment. The board asked clarifying questions about specific pieces proposed for surplus, auction guarantees and timing, and Kent said staff would return with final numbers at the next meeting.
