Council members and law-enforcement staff discussed rising e-bike incidents as school starts and the need for combined education and enforcement.
Deputy Bowie told the council that e-bikes are among the top traffic concerns alongside speeding and running stop signs and that "we are working on a plan with the [school] to do an e-bike thing with the school." He said the city has assigned a motor officer on overtime strictly for traffic enforcement and that the assignment is funded from Temple City's extra fund.
Mayor Mann emphasized outreach to students as part of prevention, saying students "are the ones being impacted" and could serve as ambassadors to teach safer e-bike behavior. The council noted prior committee work with the district and said the topic will continue to be discussed in upcoming meetings and standing committees.
