County staff urges residents to apply for $50,000 septic-replacement grant

Justin Craig of Ellis County Environmental Services outlined a septic-replacement grant awarded to the county and invited residents with failing systems to apply.
"Ellis County was awarded a $50,000 grant, to replace failing or failed septic systems in Ellis County, and it will cover up to 100% of the cost based on income levels related to federal poverty guideline," Craig said, and he asked anyone with a failed system to contact his office for inspection and application assistance.
Craig said program guidelines recently changed to expand income eligibility and staff will pay the septic installer directly; interest from residents so far has been limited because many applicants did not qualify financially. He emphasized the county wants to spend the funds and urged eligible residents to apply.
Commissioners thanked staff for the reminder and for clarifying application procedures.
