Commission approves 2025 noxious-weed eradication report and 2026 management plan

Gary Moss, the county's weed control supervisor, presented required reports under state law covering eradication work in 2025 and the 2026 management plan.
He told commissioners the division sprayed 6,800 acres of county right-of-way last year, performed contract work for KDOT and completed numerous tree and brush removal and mowing hours. "We we sprayed 6,800 acres of county right of ways," Moss said, and he described steps to replace aging equipment and train applicators.
Commissioner motioned to approve the 2025 eradication report and the 2026 management plan; a second followed and the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
Moss answered commissioner questions on education efforts for Canada thistle and on contract mowing and spraying changes; staff indicated ongoing outreach and mapping through the public works work-order program.
