The county planning department presented Madison AI, software the department says will make permitting and records searches far more efficient by indexing and surfacing recorded documents, emails, maps and prior decisions. Planning staff said the software would reduce hours of manual searching and help answer questions such as whether a lot was buildable or whether previous zone changes exist in an area.
"It's 30,000," the planning presenter reported when commissioners asked about price, and staff said they had budgeted funds under capital/consultants for the purchase and modest annual fees thereafter. Commissioners voted to approve the purchase and directed planning to bring a final contract back for signature. The department emphasized that the tool would be loaded with county documents and would be rolled out with attention to privacy and data controls.
