Shawnee County accepts KDHE grants for SFY2027 and approves immunization, maternal-child contract amendments

Shawnee County health department staff asked the commission to accept multiple Kansas Department of Health and Environment awards for state fiscal year 2027 and to renew the department’s universal KDHE contract.
Kathleen Burrows, finance and administrative division manager for the health department, asked commissioners to approve awards received to date totaling $752,349 for SFY2027. She said the packet included some — but not all — grants applied for and noted two grants (chronic disease risk reduction and family planning) include federal dollars. "I'm here this morning to request approval to accept the awards that we've received to date for a total of $752,349," Burrows told commissioners.
The board also approved contract amendment C2026258 for the Immunization Action Plan (presented by Carrie Dautz) totaling $28,764 and the maternal and child health program amendment C2026259 for $262,782. Dautz said the updated immunization agreement outlines work plans and reporting requirements; Burrows said the maternal-child award will support ongoing program work under the universal contract.
All three requests were approved on motions by commissioners present; staff said grant amounts and their federal match status will feed into upcoming 2027 budget discussions.
