The Pawnee County commissioners adopted a proclamation honoring Ryan Torres of Pawnee Heights High School for his performance at the KEMFA powerlifting meet: 1st place bench (185 lb.), 1st place clean (155 lb.), 2nd place squat (205 lb.), and 1st overall in the 114-pound division with a 545 lb. total. Commissioner Miller moved to adopt the proclamation; Commissioner Burdett seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
In other ceremonial and administrative business, the board appointed Tom Giessel (Democratic) and Joel Davis (Republican) to oversee destruction of ballots from the 2022 Presidential Preference Primary (motion by Burdett, seconded by Miller; motion passed 3-0). Commissioners also read a letter of appreciation for Camp Pawnee caretaker Mark McGehee and agreed to move summer meetings to an 8:00 a.m. start time from June 1 through Labor Day.
