Sheriff proposes 12-hour shifts and pay schedule changes; jail short two positions

Sheriff Larry Atteberry and Undersheriff Josh Huff presented an adjusted pay schedule and staffing update to the Pawnee County commissioners. Atteberry said road deputies will move to 12-hour shifts beginning May 25, 2026, a change he said is intended to improve work–life balance. He also reported the jail remains short two positions and asked the Board to consider KP&F retirement implications as part of the 2027 budget review.
Atteberry asked that a proposed 5% pay increase for 2027 be considered in addition to any county cost-of-living adjustments. Commissioners signed two vehicle titles for units to be sold and discussed the staffing and pay items; no formal vote on the pay-schedule change or the 2027 pay request was recorded at the meeting.
