Board authorizes sealed bids for surplus road equipment, sets minimums

Woodbury County’s board approved a plan to advertise and seek sealed bids for several surplus Secondary Roads items, including a 2007 Sterling L8500 truck, a portable office/lab trailer and a 2004 John Deere 6615 tractor.
Secondary Roads Engineer Laura Severs reviewed the equipment and proposed minimum sealed-bid levels: “I feel like we should do a minimum bid of 25,000 on that” for the Sterling truck; she said the manufacturer recommended a minimum bid of $10,000 for the portable office/lab trailer and proposed $20,000 as a minimum for the 2004 John Deere mower-tractor. Severs also said the county will retain a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 and some other pickups instead of disposing of them. The board approved the disposition and bid-authority motion by voice vote, 5-0.
Severs said the department will advertise the items for sealed bids and expects local communities or contractors may be interested in purchase; she described restoring sites and returning trailers to agricultural use where appropriate.
