Grant County identifies $81,316 transfer need for Senior Citizens fund amid declining meal reimbursements

Budget Officer Julie Ellison told the committee the Senior Citizens fund will need a transfer from the general fund of $81,316 because cash on hand has been depleted, cost-of-living adjustments and PERS increases have raised expenses, and meal reimbursements were lower than projected. Ellison said the county will not know final CSBG and IIIB allocations until May and that the transfer amount may need to increase then.
Committee discussion noted that the John Day cook currently handles meals for the John Day senior center and that volunteers are called on as needed; members discussed whether CCNO or the county should continue operating senior services. Amy Kreiger said that if operations were to change hands, discussions should occur well in advance.
No final transfer was recorded as completed on March 18; the need for a transfer appeared as a staff recommendation in the draft budget pending confirmation of outside funding in May.
