Board temporarily closes indoor arena after riders raise safety concerns

During the meeting and a subsequent on-site inspection, Kassi Helmricks described footing problems and broken panels in the indoor arena and urged repairs, saying riders were at risk. Kassi said the surface had become compacted after events like a pig clinic and that large rock pieces and missing panel fittings made riding unsafe. Kassi also said some users avoid reporting problems for fear of retaliation; Mindy denied retaliating.
Board members agreed to close the arena for now until the footing can be ‘worked up’ when water can be turned on and necessary repairs completed, including welding eyes on panels. Donna Palmer said, "We will have to see what we can do after it is worked up and after we look at funding." The board walked the arena and the Heritage barn after adjournment and identified welding and footing work as next steps.
