Counsel: No campaigning within 100 feet of voting centers, 25 feet of drop boxes

Deputy prosecuting attorney Katie Joma reviewed proximity rules that apply during the voting period: no person may attempt to persuade, distribute materials, solicit, or amplify messages within 100 feet of a voting center or within 25 feet of a ballot drop box.
"During the voting period, which begins 18 days before the end of the day of the election, no person... within a 100 feet of a voting center... or 25 feet of a ballot drop box can you suggest, persuade, distribute, solicit, or disrupt the administration of people voting," Joma said. She added that loud amplification that can be understood inside the restricted zone is not allowed.
Joma gave locality examples — including the elections office at Franklin and Mill Plain and a student engagement hub at Clark College — and warned commissioners that amplified messaging or obstructing entry to voting centers could be actionable. She urged commissioners to advise supporters not to engage in conduct that could disrupt access to voting or trigger complaints.
