Laconia Council backs application to expand mobile integrated health program; manager says no local match required for application

The council gave unanimous support for the Laconia Fire Department to move forward with an application to the Foundation for Healthy Communities 'Go North' program to expand the city's mobile integrated health (MIH) program. City Manager Kirk Biotti clarified the request seeks permission to apply and that any grant award would still require subsequent council review, public hearing and formal acceptance.
"All of you know about the MIH program and how successful it's been for us and for the community of Laconia," the fire chief (speaker 22) told the council, describing plans for an additional community paramedic position and an in-house medical director. Biotti and the chief stated there is currently no local matching requirement for the application stage. The council recorded a voice vote of 6-0 in favor of supporting submission of the application; any future implementation decisions would come back to the council following award and staff analysis.
