Jay County retirement center updates admissions policy, welcomes new director

Cindy Bracy, president of the JCCL Advisory Board of Directors, briefed the Jay County Commissioners on operational updates for the county retirement center and asked the board to approve a revised admissions policy. Bracy said the advisory board had already approved the application and recommended a change to allow applicants to appeal admission decisions to the board in writing; commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the change after clarifying who covers the cost of any required psychiatric evaluations.
Bracy reported the facility has 20 residents and introduced Stacey Johnson as the new director on her first day. She described recent efforts including a 2023 study committee focused on fiscal accountability and resident and staff safety, use of RCAP to streamline filings, and partnerships with Ball State University and Purdue Extension for resident programming. "It would be one of the first items completed by the new director to update all resident files," Bracy said of the code-of-conduct and file updates.
The commission's action was limited to approving the policy language changes and did not change the facility's admission criteria beyond adding an appeal path. Commissioners also confirmed that applicants are responsible for the costs of any required psychiatric evaluations.
