Sen. Weber Pearson presented SB 874 and accepted committee amendments that would require statewide background checks for employees of behavioral‑health treatment (BHT) providers working under Medi‑Cal and convene stakeholders to advise on standards and implementation. "SB 874 strengthens oversight and standardization of behavioral health treatment services in Medi-Cal," the author said.
Rachel Blucher of CalABA testified in support, noting the bill would create a multi‑stakeholder process to evaluate credentialing, documentation, and authorization requirements for applied behavior analysis providers and to ensure consistent background checks and patient protections. The committee accepted the presentation and indicated readiness to recommend the measure when quorum is achieved.
