Lapeer County board adopts 2025 meeting schedule and Rules of Procedure; chair proposes public-comment changes

The Lapeer County Board of Commissioners approved its 2025 Schedule of Meetings and adopted the Rules of Procedure at the Jan. 2 organizational meeting. Motion 04-2025 (moved by Commissioner C. lan Kempf and supported by Commissioner Kevin Knisely) approved the meeting schedule. Motion 07-2025 (moved by Kempf, supported by Wise) adopted the Rules of Procedure as presented.
Chairman Gary Howell noted the Rules of Procedure will need amendment and asked Commissioner Greg Wise to schedule a Policies Committee meeting to process those amendments. Howell also explained that the rules mirror state law on public comment but proposed explicitly limiting the first public comment period at meetings to items on that meeting's agenda, with a second public comment period reserved for general topics.
