Commissioner Talton presented a request to purchase 5.67 acres of land owned by the Houston County Hospital Authority on Highway 127 for use as a new well site. The board unanimously authorized the Chairman to sign all documents for the purchase at a price of $300,000, with closing costs paid from Water Department Capital Funds. County Attorney Tom Hall advised there was no conflict of interest for commissioners who serve on related boards.
During public comment and commissioner remarks, Robert Sharples questioned the purchase price, and Commissioner Byrd said he thought the price “was possibly a little low” for more than five acres on a state highway adjacent to commercial property. The board recorded unanimous approval to proceed with the acquisition.
