The Houston County Board of Commissioners on July 22 approved a set of landfill fee changes and related personnel actions. The board adopted a residential contracted municipal solid waste curbside rate of $26.97, a gate rate of $30.97 for other commercial municipal solid waste, and an increase in the out-of-county host fee from $4.00 to $5.00 per ton; the fee changes take effect October 25, 2025. Chairman Perdue said capital improvements, cell construction and equipment costs are extremely high and that a rate study supports the adjustments to cover future expansion and regulatory costs.
Separately, the board approved hiring Jeffery Coker to fill the vacant Heavy Equipment Operator position at the Landfill (grade 13, Step B), effective July 23, 2025. The board also approved a one-step increase for Steven Franklin, Water Treatment Operator, effective August 4, 2025, in recognition of his Georgia Water Treatment Operator Class 2 License.
