Robins AFB software engineering director highlights local recruitment, school outreach

Mike Doubleday, director of the 402nd Software Engineering Group at Robins Air Force Base, addressed the Houston County Board of Commissioners on July 8 about the unit’s mission supporting aircraft computer and navigation systems and ongoing recruitment work. Doubleday, who recounted a 36‑year career at Robins beginning in 1989, said the unit is reaching out to universities across the Southeast and to local high schools through Project Synergy to attract new engineering talent.
Chairman Perdue and Commissioners Gottwals, Robinson and Talton each expressed appreciation for the group’s work supporting military readiness. The presentation underscored local ties between the base and Houston County and the county’s role in workforce development around defense tech jobs.
