Houston County adopts $151.98 million FY2026 budget

Commissioner Byrd read the resolution into the record, noting compliance with O.C.G.A. Section 36-81-3 and that a public hearing had been held on June 3, 2025. The budget resolution designates $2,379,236 from previously assigned General Fund balance for personnel adjustments and $2,000,000 from unassigned fund balance to fund the design and construction of an Emergency Management Agency warehouse capital improvement project.
The resolution also allocates $286,817 from the Fire Fund for fire prevention and $179,240 from the OPIOID Settlement Fund for education, training and treatment of opioid use disorder. Chairman Perdue thanked county staff and department heads for their work preparing the budget. Commissioner Byrd expressed appreciation for county employees and emphasized the strength of the General Fund balance and capital investments.
The motion to adopt the budget was moved, seconded and carried unanimously. The Board also approved a routine payment batch during the meeting; more administrative and implementation steps were discussed for executing the budget in the coming fiscal year.
