Council approved a resolution authorizing staff actions to facilitate removal of unlawful discriminatory language from identified deeds and declarations of restricted covenants. Deputy City Manager Abdi said staff tightened the resolution, added a clause for attorney review of modifications and a process to notify affected property owners. "Some of the most substantive were probably adding a clause noting that we will have attorneys review the modification," Abdi said during the presentation.
Council members asked whether outside counsel would review every modification packet and sought clarification the city intended only a spot-check process. Abdi said the city has budgeted $55,000 for legal review and recommended leaving flexibility while allowing a friendly amendment clarifying the review would be of a representative sample rather than every packet. The motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. The council recorded no opposition and no abstentions on the final voice vote.
